The Syneron Candela GentleMax Pro LASER emits two wavelengths of light that target a specific pigment in the skin. The Alexandrite laser emits a wavelength of 755nm and is the fastest of all lasers for hair removal. The Nd:Yag 1064 works on darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV & V). It specifically destroys the hair follicles that are in an active growth stage only. Approx. only 20% of hair being treated are in the active growth stage at one time and for this reason regular treatments are required to achieve a satisfactory reduction (usually 6-8). Hairs can be in the resting stage for 2-7 years, thus after the recommended course of treatments are completed, maintenance treatments will be required over that time frame.

Many people are confused about these two technologies and unfortunately many clinics that offer the cheaper and less effective IPL advertise as “laser” hair removal.

While a laser emits a specific wavelength of light that targets only the pigment you want to remove, IPL emits the whole spectrum of light wavelengths and indiscriminately heats up neighbouring tissue as well. Hence, although LASER sends more energy to the skin, IPL is more likely to cause burning, particularly in darker skin types. It is much less effective because it cannot penetrate to the same level and reach the targeted pigmented hair follicle.

Nonetheless, IPL will reduce hair growth, but unlike LASER, it cannot provide the long-term removal that you deserve.

GentleMax Pro hair removal treatments use a Zimmer Cooler, applying cold air to the area, which makes the treatments as comfortable as they are effective. We also have the option of using the patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCDTM), which prepares the skin for treatment by spraying the upper layer with a cooling burst of cryogen just milliseconds before the LASER pulse. The Zimmer Cooler or the DCD helps ensure that GentleMax Pro hair removal treatments are pain free.

On average you will require 6-8 treatments, but this greatly depends on your skin type, the colour of the hair and your personal needs.

Avoid sun exposure at least two weeks prior to treatment.

Clean shave 1 day before the treatment or on the day of the treatment. This is required so that the LASER can penetrate the root of the hair and not target, or singe, any hair on or outside the skin.

Do not bleach, pluck or wax 4 weeks before the treatment, as the root needs to stay intact. This is so the LASER can effectively destroy the hair at the follicle.

Wait for tanned skin to fade before beginning treatment.

Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen (but I’m sure you already do that, don’t you)? Any hair growth between sessions should be shaved, not waxed, bleached or threaded so that subsequent treatments can continue to target the hair follicle.

Unlike getting a bikini wax, you should not cancel your treatment due to your period. It's very important to stay consistent with treatments. Thus, even if a woman is menstruating and treatment is in the bikini area, we just ask that you use a tampon on the day of treatment.

Shaving of the areas to be treated prior to LASER application is available at an additional small cost.
